FAQ On Hypnotherapy
-
What is Hypnosis and does it really work?
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind; you go in and out of hypnosis throughout your day such as when you daydream or when you are driving and find yourself at your destination without really remembering how you got there.
-
Can Hypnosis help me stop ______________ ?
It depends how serious you are about stopping whatever it is you want to stop. How committed are you?
-
Can you make me quack like a duck or bark like a dog?
You will not be made to do anything you do not want to do. You are in control the whole time during the session. You will never do or say anything contrary to your core values and beliefs. Stage hypnosis is for show only and requires a certain amount of set up to produce results. You are the one that sets the intention for the session every time.
-
I have a constant chatter going on in my mind. Can that keep me from being able to be hypnotized?
No. We have techniques that will act as a distraction to your analytical mind, which will allow your subconscious mind to come to the forefront.
-
What exactly is the subconscious mind?
It is a part of our brain that is habitual in nature. Like the tying of the shoes for example. When you first learn it, you make a conscious effort to get it done properly. After a while it becomes second nature and you no longer need to pay attention to it.. That is your subconscious at work.
-
What will it feel like to be hypnotized?
You will feel relaxed. It will be like you are daydreaming. You will be the director of your own experience and even though I will be giving you guided imagery or suggestions, you still decide what you envision or imagine.
-
What if I get emotional?
It is perfectly normal to get emotional during a hypnosis session, however most people don’t. We are trained to be able to bring you out of it if you get overly emotional or upset. Remember that you are the one in control. Getting emotional is also a process towards healing and getting past mistaken beliefs and traumas, so that is actually a positive thing.
-
How many sessions will I need to address my issue?
It all depends on the issue and on how committed you are to address it. For smoking cessation for example, usually it takes 2 to 3 sessions.
-
How long is each session?
Our initial session will be longer as a history and demographic information will be discussed. It should be under 2 hours. You should set aside about 1 hour and 30 minutes for each session after that. The hypnosis session in and of itself will last about 30 to 40 minutes.
-
Is there a guarantee? How will i know it worked?
There are no guarantees. It may take a few days or weeks, depending on the issue, before you start noticing a difference. Some individuals can clear issues within 1 or 2 sessions. It is very important to understand that results vary with the individual’s willingness and commitment to the changes they wish to make.
-
What if I get “stuck” in hypnosis?
You cannot get stuck in hypnosis. You can get up, move, speak or stop the session at any time. Remember: You are in the driver’s seat.
-
Can you help me forget a terrible experience I have been through?
Hypnosis does not erase memory. Hypnosis helps you reframe and manage that memory, so that it no longer controls and hinders your life.
-
Will I remember what happened during Hypnosis? What if I fall asleep?
Some individuals are able to recall with great detail, others recall bits and pieces, and yet others remember nothing at all. During Hypnosis you are in such a state of relaxation that it may make you feel like you went to sleep. I believe that if your subconscious mind wants you to recall something that will be for your benefit, thats what will happen.
-
What if I recall something in Hypnosis that I had not remembered before?
There is no guarantee that what you are recalling is 100% accurate or factual. A lot of times our subconscious will use metaphors to help us understand something about ourselves. It will never reveal something that is not ultimately for your higher good.
